Does Cocoa Butter Work For Stretch Marks?

If you’ve been struggling with stretch marks, chances are, you’ve tried just about everything under the sun to get rid of them. They’re ghastly in appearance, can lower your self-esteem and make you feel unattractive.
Likely one of the first lines of defense against stretch marks that you’ve heard of is cocoa butter. But does it really work to remove stretch marks?

cocoa butterCocoa butter in its pure form is an edible vegetable fat that comes from the cocoa bean. It is used in baking, but it is also used in cosmetics due to its soothing and lubricant qualities. Cocoa butter can also be found under the name theobroma oil. Unlike the cocoa bean, however, cocoa butter only contains trace amounts of caffeine and theobromine (both are stimulants).

The Theory of Cocoa Butter

Theoretically, cocoa butter helps retain your skin’s elasticity, meaning that your skin will have a better chance of not breaking when it is stretched. Supposedly, this also means that it will help increase the production of collagen and elastin to the skin wherever it’s applied. But is this true?

The fact is, cocoa butter will not work by itself to cure stretch marks. It will make the skin smoother, and can help prevent further stretch marks from forming, but when used alone, studies have shown that cocoa butter will not improve the appearance of stretch marks any more than a placebo would.

Does Cocoa Butter Remove Stretch Marks?

Essentially, cocoa butter is not a stand-alone product that will cure, eliminate, erase, or otherwise diminish the appearance of stretch marks. Certainly, it feels nice and adds to the prevention of further stretch marks, but it is not going to get rid of them once the skin damage has been done.

If you do still want to use cocoa butter to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, however, there are ways that you can use it in conjunction with other treatments. But it cannot be said enough that cocoa butter alone is not a cure for stretch marks that have already reared their ugly heads.

How to Use Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter can prime your skin and areas where stretch marks are a problem, making your skin more supple and able to receive treatments. You will have to mix pure cocoa butter with the following treatments:

  • Vitamin E Oil (aka Tocopherol Oil)
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Scar Tissue treatment (such as Mederma™ or similar brand)

The cocoa butter will have to be applied three times per day — morning, afternoon, and bedtime. The vitamin E oil should also be applied after the cocoa butter at morning and afternoon. The tea tree oil should be applied after the cocoa butter at bedtime (due to its strong medicinal scent), and the scar tissue treatment gel should be applied as directed on the label.

When using cocoa butter, there is a lot of work involved in getting it to help improve your skin elasticity and prime your skin for treatment with other oils, creams, and gels. Many people find this amount of work highly inconvenient, and expensive, for results that are way less than satisfying.

A Better Alternative To Cocoa Butter

It seems kind of silly to spend that much money and time on a treatment that will likely not work the way that you want it to work. Fortunately, there are better alternatives out there on the market. Skinception™ uses a specialized formula that uses proprietary mixtures to work toward the reduction of stretch marks. These mixtures are so good at reducing and, in some cases, eliminating stretch marks due to improved skin elasticity and scar tissue reduction, that you won’t need any other homemade formulas or remedies.

Another nice bonus to using these creams from Skinception™ is that elasticity of the skin is improved enough to prevent new stretch marks from forming. Just by using this cream, you would be doing what cocoa butter does, without any of the inconvenience.

If you’ve used cocoa butter in the past, chances are, you already knew it won’t diminish the appearance of stretch marks, but it will help to prevent new ones from forming. You would be better off spending your money on a reliable, proven skin cream that will do the job better and more quickly.
